So this year there is no OppiKoppi! Yesterday the event organizers announced the postponement of the 25th edition annual music festival, OppiKoppi, till 2020. For those of you who don't know what OppiKoppi is...shame... This epic music festival that all South African music fans look so forward to, is held annually in the Limpopo Province. The festival plays host to a complete mixed bag of genres of music. Anything from jazz, world music, house music, acoustic, comedy and all else in between can be heard on one of the multiple stages.
Each year in the first week of August - thousands of people flock to the farm to camp out in the bush and enjoy the music for several days. Taking to its official social media pages, they issued an official statement citing their reasons for taking a gap year, emphasizing that the decision was not "taken lightly". "By taking a gap year, we are giving ourselves the breathing room to redesign the festival and bring in the necessary changes without impacting the festival goer by increasing ticket prices. We believe that in doing this, we will bring everyone a fresh new festival, ready to take music lovers forward for the next 25 years." No Oppi this year:(
